Political Corruption in India Post-1947.

Yoga for Health and Prevent Heart Disease. Corruption in Politics and Political.

Political Corruption in India is not confined to a few. A majority of the politicians, public servants and business persons are anti-honesty. In fact after names of Greenland, Ireland, Thailand, we may rename it as Chorland. Read on about important events in India post-1947, and how corrupt politicians nd politics have promoted corruption to just occupy the seats of power.

China-India War 1962

The most infamous incident is the Nehru-Thimmayya resignation affair. As army chief in 1959, the legendary K S Thimmayya found it impossible to work harmoniously with his defence minister - the irascible Krishna Menon. The differences impinged on matters of grave national security at the time, particularly the China threat. Pushed to the wall, the general tendered his resignation to the PM and was to be joined by his naval and air force peers. But Nehru used all his persuasive powers to force him to withdraw his letter and then proceeded to upbraid him in Parliament the next day...............

It must be noted with sadness that Nehru took the low road in the Thimmayya episode by seeking a tactical political gain.

General KS Thimmayya

Thimayya fell out with Defence Minister V.K. Krishna Menon and resigned. The resignation would have greatly undermined Krishna Menon's prestige and to an extent, Nehru's as well. Nehru persuaded Thimayya to withdraw his resignation - only to censure him severely in Parliament the next day. Someone put it very well - Nehru was vastly over-rated as a statesman; greatly underestimated as a politician. Nehru also persuaded the Chiefs of Navy and Air Force to break ranks with the Army Chief and not resign. Thimayya retired as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) in March 1961. A terrible two years were in store for the Army and the country. Thimayya died in Nicosia in December 1965 as Commander of the United Nations Forces in Cyprus.........

It must be noted with sadness that Nehru took the low road in the Thimmayya episode by seeking a tactical political gain.

General Thimmayya's Resignation

The withdrawal of his resignation had its negative effects: Thimayya lost his hold over some of the officers who deified him and could not see him being humiliated.. it forfeited the giving of a jolt to Nehru, who not only seemed to link Thimayya's resignation with a hypothetically "questioning civilian supremacy" (and indirectly, a propensity for attempting a coup) but Nehru got a free run towards brinkmanship, leading to the debacle of 1962. Had Thimayya resigned, it was felt by the observers of the events of that period, the Indian government would have been forced to do some serious thinking about the Chinese threat and done a "course correction."...........

It must be noted with sadness that Nehru took the low road in the Thimmayya episode by seeking a tactical political gain.

Dharma Teja's Shipping Company - Political Corruption

Sooner or later the bubble was bound to burst and it did so not with a whimper but with a bang. Teja's Japanese suppliers discovered, to their dismay that instalments of payments due from him were no longer coming in. They therefore wanted to foreclose the sales of ships. Others who had accepted these ships as securities for financing Teja were also up in arms. Crews of various Jayanti ships complained that they were not getting their wages.

Investigations showed that Teja's financial empire was a mirage. Through his elaborate scam he had taken the Indian government as well as the Japanese shipyards for a ride. In any case, there was no way the government loan to Teja could be recovered...........

Satyam scandal - the fallout

The disaster that is Satyam has sent shockwaves around the outsourcing world. In short, India's fourth-largest outsourcing services provider inflated the amount of cash it said was on its books by $1bn (£680m); incurred a $253m liability on funds personally arranged by its chairman and founder, Ramalinga Raju; overstated quarterly revenues for the period ending 30 September 2008 by 28% and overstated earnings by $125m. These revelations have led to a crisis of confidence about whether the company will continue, placing question marks over India as a premier destination for outsourcing IT services.
