Thee Cheers for Rabri Devi

A contempt petition was filed against former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, wife of RJD supremo and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, in Patna High Court for making remarks against the judiciary

Not known for having any class or sophistication, an extremely boorish Rabri Devi, the former Chief Minister of Bihar and the wife of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, in Saran on Saturday (4th April, 2009)outclassed herself when she, at a public meeting, screamed about Chief Minister Nitish Kumar having 'dubious' relationship with Janata Dal (U) state president Lallan Singh.

"Have you seen how close both Nitish and Lallan sit in every meeting. Under the table they are holding hands because Nitish is the 'sala' of Lallan Singh and Lallan Singh is the 'sala' (brother-in-law) of Nitish Kumar," an uncouth Rabri Devi is seen saying on videos recorded by a number of news channel.

Rabri Devi further said that the Governor of Bihar, Patna High Court, and the media were also acting in collusion with Nitish Kumar and she had evidence to prove it.

While Kumar chose to make no comment over Rabri Devi's below-the-belt remarks, an angry Lallan Singh on Sunday shot back, and understandingly so, at the former Chief Minister calling her 'classless' whose manners were not fit for any public office.

"This woman belongs in a mental hospital. Her language reflects her low mentality that is an insult to all the women in the country," Singh said.

JD-U national spokesperson Shivanand Tiwari, once a supporter of Lalu and Rabri, lashed out at the leader of the Opposition saying her comments were not surprising at all considering this woman had once attacked an opposition leader with sandals in her hand, called a former Governor of Bihar (Shyam Sundar Bhandari) 'langda siyar' and often referred to Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan, the one she is now in bed with politically, 'langda bilar'.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, reacting to Rabri's latest allegations, demanded her removal from public services saying the woman was mentally insane and was unfit to be in public life.

"Her words are extremely derogatory and not fit to be repeated in public. If Lalu Prasad Yadav had any shame left, he should retire his wife to his kitchen which is where she belongs away from any limelight, Modi said.

Meanwhile, an NDA delegate led by Shivanand Tiwari met with the Election Commission on Sunday and handed over a memo and a CD of Rabri Devi's speech demanding her expulsion from politics for violating electoral code of conducts and engaging in gutter politics.

JD-U leaders are also seeking termination of Rabri Devi's membership from the Bihar Assembly and a permanent ban on contesting any election in future.

A defamation case against Rabri Devi is also in the making, Shivanand Tiwari said.

Nitish Kumar, at a press conference at the Patna Airport before leaving for canvassing in the state, said Rabri Devi's comments did not deserve any comment.

"I will not stoop to her level despite the despicable allegations made by her. It shows that the RJD leaders have seen the writing on the wall and have realized their political end is not too far away. It is very frustrating for them and therefore these leaders are uttering things that are not only untrue but also extremely shameful for any politician,"
